Behave and Other Things showed a collection of works created over the last eighteen months, tracing three distinct periods in Donaldson’s practice.
“Last out of the Room please, please turn the lights out”, “Lull of the Tide”, "Lay ,me in the Reeds", and “On the Bay”
The Prussian blue paintings, made in 2025, explore light and shadow through a deliberately restricted palette. Rather than discarding the white spirit used to clean her brushes, Donaldson allows the leftover pigments to settle and re-enter subsequent works, creating an evolving relationship between colour and material.
“Things Behave Differently When They Know They Are Seen- Diptych” and “Things Behave Differently When They Know They Are Seen- #2”
These paintings belong to a larger series in which the same image is repeatedly recreated from memory. Each version shifts slightly, questioning the reliability of memory and our tendency to become unreliable narrators of our own experiences.
“Red Blossom”, “On the Lake”, “Study of Railings”, and “Hop”, “Skip” and “Jump”
The most recent works move into airbrush, returning to Donaldson’s recurring imagery of water, light and shadow. The process is more removed from the hand, introducing a different kind of control and allowing the imagery to become increasingly atmospheric.
